What are the top interior design trends for 2025?
This blog post was originally written for Fritz Fryer Lighting and has been slightly adapted for sharing here.
When Fritz Fryer Lighting approached me to share my thoughts on current design trends, I was delighted to contribute. If you've been following my work for a while, you'll know my philosophy: rather than slavishly following trends, use them as inspiration to discover what truly resonates with you. The most authentic homes reflect elements you'll love long-term—pieces and styles that showcase your personal taste and life experiences.
In this piece, we explore some exciting design directions including unfitted kitchens, statement hallways, and the bold technique of colour drenching, among others. Let's dive in and discover which of these trends might inspire your own home design.
It’s that time, interior design trends are creeping back up and we’ve done the research so that you can do the decorating. If you’ve been searching for new home decor ideas,
you’re in the right place! We spoke to Interior Designers, Tash South and Leoma Harper to give you the best advice on these trends. Want to know how to incorporate the perfect lighting into these trends? Our very own in-house designer, Iasmin, tells you how!

Out with the beige…
In 2025 we’re mixing and matching brilliantly bold patterns, textures and colours. It’s the year of layering all of these to create your own personalised and expressive spaces by incorporating everything that you love in one space. Here’s how:
“This trend is definitely getting bolder and brighter. Last year was all about mixing neutral textures and patterns. This year it starts with a neutral base, then layered with bold patterns, lots of stripes and bright colour pops.” – Leoma Harper, @styletheclutter
Mixing textures, patterns, and colours is the best way to bring your personality into your interior.
But balance is the secret here – mix textures and patterns with intention – let one element lead and the others follow. And try not to stick to the trends too much, for an authentic home, choose textures and colours that you love, and that reflect your personal taste and experiences.

The Maximalist Home
Have you heard of colour drenching? This trend has already taken off and it’s everywhere! But, the trending colour that’s going to take over this year is… yellow. Why yellow? Yellow is a colour that brings warmth, and joy. An easy way to enhance this colour in your home would be to use warm-toned bulbs, antique brass or polished brass to intensify the earthy, golden tones. Additionally, bronze and nickel would pop against the yellow!

“It may be difficult to immediately picture where yellow paint could seamlessly slot into your home, but it’s actually much more versatile than you may first think. The decision to choose the most uplifting hue in the spectrum is to spark inspiration and instil confidence to leap into the unknown and endless possibilities of what could be. Whilst yellow is one of the bolder colours on the spectrum, True Joy™ is complementary to a vast range of palettes, it brings out the positivity in even the most neutral of shades and is the figurative glue that binds more daring colour stories together.”
“The meaning behind the colour’s choice is so impactful. The sheer bliss the colour exudes physically pushes us to create something better for ourselves; it allows us to put the past behind us and gives us the inspiration we need to forge a future for our proudest, most confident selves. Put simply, True Joy™ is a call to action.” – Marianne Shillingford, Creative Director and Colour Expert at Dulux
“Colour drenching has really become part of the 2025 look especially on the ceilings, literally everything is painted in a similar tone. This year has seen the emergence of going bolder with the ceilings, using a brighter more contrasting tone to the walls, even wallpaper.” – Leoma Harper, @styletheclutter
This technique helps create a bold and seamless look, making a strong style statement.

Statement Hallways
Statement hallways are in for the year, continuing the maximalist interior decor. However, if maximalism isn’t for you, there’s simple ways to create the statement hallway of your dreams – wallpapered ceilings have become extremely popular alongside colour drenching. Wallpapering the ceiling in transitional spaces can add extra impact while keeping the walls neutral. Followed by large statement lighting, will make the impact you never knew you needed.
I love a statement hallway, it’s a transition space so you can go bold!
But a hallway isn’t just a pass-through—it’s a first impression, so take your time to come up with the design especially for that space, treat it like another room in the home. You can go bold by colour drenching the entire space for a cocooning and cosy welcome into your home. Don’t forget the ceiling—it’s your fifth wall, so you can add unexpected patterns and colours with an incredible wallpaper choice, and statement pendant or chandelier always works well in a hallway.

Unfitted kitchens
Unfitted kitchens are personal and use layered design such as vintage sideboards, mismatched chairs, and freestanding furniture. They’re perfect because you can switch them up whenever you want and never get bored! What is an unfitted kitchen, and why is it trending? Opting for this approach adds more character and it’s fully customisable to suit you!
“I love this trend and it’s definitely had a re-emergence this year. Blending in vintage and modern elements and mixing styles, it really creates a unique kitchen and is a lot more achievable on a tighter budget, You can even re-use/upcycle old wardrobes to create a pantry cupboard etc.” – Leoma Harper, @styletheclutter
Unfitted kitchens are a more sustainable approach to renovating or designing your kitchen, by incorporating portable second-hand pieces.
Unfitted kitchens can be interpreted in many ways
the entire kitchen can have an unfitted look, or you can add free-standing elements to a fitted kitchen for a more relaxed look. The adaptability is also a huge plus – in my kitchen at home I’ve put my brass island on wheels, which I can move around as needs change, or if we need a bigger dance floor at a party!
Interior designer, Tash South, highlights the importance of adaptability of your unfitted kitchen furniture.
“Unfitted kitchens can be interpreted in many ways, the entire kitchen can have an unfitted look, or you can add free-standing elements to a fitted kitchen for a more relaxed look. I love the idea of elevating this look by using vintage or antique freestanding pieces, or freestanding cabinets or larders in contrasting or complimentary colours or materials – a great way to add personality to a plain kitchen. Adaptability is also a huge plus – in my kitchen at home I’ve put my brass island on wheels, which I can move around as needs change, or if we need a bigger dance floor at a party!” – Tash South, @southplacestudio
Being clever with the use of your furniture also ties into another interior design trend for the year, which is to utilise hybrid rooms. You can follow Tash’s footsteps and wheel your kitchen island to the side for more space!
Victorian bathrooms
Yes! More than ever.
Victorian-style bathrooms are having a well-deserved moment. With their freestanding tubs, intricate tiling, and rich colour palettes. But while the design nods to the past, the best spaces seamlessly blend Victorian opulence with modern functionality.
That’s where our lighting designs come in. Our contemporary range takes inspiration from heritage designs but with a refined edge. Perfect for a Victorian-style bathroom with a modern twist.“The classic freestanding cast iron bath is back. Bathrooms are becoming more opulent, with bold checkerboard tiles and warmer tones alongside statement jewellery like brass ware, you can even get taps embellished with flowers or crystals.” – Leoma Harper, @styletheclutter
This leans into castlecore, taking inspiration from ancient castles for sophistication and luxury living. Looking at castle house plans has inspired many new home decor pieces such as jewellery-esque and Rococo styling.

hybrid rooms
Last but not least, hybrid rooms. This might sound like an obvious one, but functionality is key in 2025. There’s more remote workers, so having an area to do your work is non-negotiable these days. But, we don’t all have access to this, right? That’s where hybrid rooms come in! You might be thinking, but I have a small room, my space isn’t big enough to work. You can create the perfect hybrid room in a small space by utilising your living room or dining area!
“2025 is all about work life balance, multi purpose spaces are being created both in the office and at home for a welcoming flexible space that’s homely, then, office.” – Leoma Harper, @styletheclutter
