HOME TOUR: Explore Helen’s Heavenly Living Space
As soon as I stepped into Helen’s open-plan kitchen, I just knew I had to feature it on this blog. There is something special and celestial about how the light enters this home, which is impossible to show in pictures, but I do hope my photos do it some justice.
The light, bright space really has a special feel to it.
Helen lives in this north London Victorian home with her partner Paul and their two young children. A few years ago they embarked on transforming the space by adding a side-return extension with the help of an architect, but Helen already had strong ideas of what she wanted, a corner picture window and large glass door to frame the beautiful garden, as well as a skylight were all must-haves.
The corner window seat is such a great feature in this space.
THE KITCHEN AND DINING AREA
Helen and Paul’s choice of pale marble for the worktop, back-splash and waterfall island works so well in this light-filled space.
The pale marble encases three sides of the kitchen island.
Materials and colours have been kept subdued. A palette of mostly white and black with subtle hints of green work so well with the garden view beyond, and are all off-set gorgeously by the pale, solid parquet wood floors throughout.
I love how Helen has carefully chosen the few items on display - right down to the cushions on the window seat.
Lighting has been kept super simple with small metal and exposed bulb pendants dotted throughout, with a statement glass chandelier hung over the dining table.
The small industrial-style metal pendants are simple, but very effective.
The glass chandelier adds sophisticated texture.
Helen has placed carefully chosen modern artwork throughout.
A little feature I really love in this kitchen is the narrow marble shelf accessorised thoughtfully with well-edited white tableware and a careful selection of vintage finds.
All white objects on the pale marble shelf – as stunning as a still-life painting!
The black dining chairs and bar stools anchor the look.
THE LIVING AREA
The same subdued palette and lightness continues in the living room with just a hint of pink added. White leather sofas with clean lines and delicate legs seem to float on the parquet flooring around a beautiful rug purchased in Morocco.
Minimal but effective greens and pinks have been added in the living room.
I love how the casual gauzy white curtains Helen has chosen frame the two statement chairs in the bay window, while the green crystal chandelier and foxed mirrors finish the look perfectly by adding a touch of opulence.
The authentic Moroccan rug adds just the right amount of pattern and texture.
The details; foxed glass, stylish sideboard and thoughtfully styled corners finish the look perfectly.
