Cosy-up The Winter Nights With Habitat's Fab Lighting

Winter is well and truly with us here in the UK! Just a couple of weeks ago London awoke to a thick blanket of snow, which of course caused travel chaos, but that’s another story altogether! I can safely say that I am not a winter lover. Having moved to London from sunny Cape Town about sixteen years ago, I think that I am finally beginning to acclimatise to the chillier Northern Hemisphere weather.

But one thing I do like about the colder and darker months is the opportunity to make my home feel warm, cozy and welcoming, and a great way to do this is to experiment with lighting.  I think that absolutely all pendant and spot lighting should be dimmable, and be layered with various lamps dotted around the room, giving you total control of the ambience of the room.

My brass and diffused glass Burgess lamp from Habitat is at the ready for the long winter nights.

A few weeks ago I was invited to the Habitat Light Club Event, which is fun-filled night held in the lighting section of the store. We were treated to cocktails, DJs and flexible break-dancers that made me feel about 90 years old, and of course the opportunity to ogle Habitat’s fab lighting range close up. I also spotted some lovely new pieces at their Press event in the Summer, which I have been anticipating and are going to be available very soon.

Here are my top picks from The Habitat Lighting range to bring some hygge to your home this festive season.

Shadow

The Shadow lamp makes a great statement, lean it against a wall and it creates a frame-shaped shadow of light.

Apex

The angled glass Apex lamp which makes a striking addition to a room, add a feature filament bulb for extra wow.

Kuriko

I love the simple lines of this Kuriko lamp. It has a solid marble base but has a small footprint, making it a good choice for smaller spaces.

Bayla

The sculptural Bayla is one of the newbies arriving soon. It would be fab over a dining table or kitchen island and its drop length can be adjusted.

Tessellate

The Tessellate wall light is designed by Aaron Probyn and is exclusive to Habitat. It's a great piece and its shape allows it to be used in multiples.

Fitz

I love the simple shape of the Fitz, and I've given many as gifts. This bright yellow will brighten up your winter whether it's on or off.

Planning cozy lighting and hibernating for a few months will get me through the winter, but I do hope it doesn't last too long!
