HOME TOUR: Explore Helen’s Heavenly Living Space by Tash South

As soon as I stepped into Helen’s open-plan kitchen, I just knew I had to feature it on this blog. There is something special and celestial about how the light enters this home, which is impossible to show in pictures, but I do hope my photos do it some justice.

The light, bright space really has a special feel to it.

Helen lives in this north London Victorian home with her partner Paul and their two young children. A few years ago they embarked on transforming the space by adding a side-return extension with the help of an architect, but Helen already had strong ideas of what she wanted, a corner picture window and large glass door to frame the beautiful garden, as well as a skylight were all must-haves.

The corner window seat is such a great feature in this space.

Helen and Paul’s choice of pale marble for the worktop, back-splash and waterfall island works so well in this light-filled space.

The pale marble encases three sides of the kitchen island.

Materials and colours have been kept subdued. A palette of mostly white and black with subtle hints of green work so well with the garden view beyond, and are all off-set gorgeously by the pale, solid parquet wood floors throughout.

I love how Helen has carefully chosen the few items on display - right down to the cushions on the window seat.

Lighting has been kept super simple with small metal and exposed bulb pendants dotted throughout, with a statement glass chandelier hung over the dining table.

The small industrial-style metal pendants are simple, but very effective.

The glass chandelier adds sophisticated texture.

Helen has placed carefully chosen modern artwork throughout.

A little feature I really love in this kitchen is the narrow marble shelf accessorised thoughtfully with well-edited white tableware and a careful selection of vintage finds.

All white objects on the pale marble shelf – as stunning as a still-life painting!

The black dining chairs and bar stools anchor the look.

The same subdued palette and lightness continues in the living room with just a hint of pink added. White leather sofas with clean lines and delicate legs seem to float on the parquet flooring around a beautiful rug purchased in Morocco.

Minimal but effective greens and pinks have been added in the living room.

I love how the casual gauzy white curtains Helen has chosen frame the two statement chairs in the bay window, while the green crystal chandelier and foxed mirrors finish the look perfectly by adding a touch of opulence.

The authentic Moroccan rug adds just the right amount of pattern and texture.

The details; foxed glass, stylish sideboard and thoughtfully styled corners finish the look perfectly.

Massive thanks to Helen and Paul for allowing me to photograph their home!

HOME TOUR: Your chance see inside This Grand Regent’s Park Residence by Tash South

Have you ever walked past the gorgeous stucco fronted houses around London and wished you could just ring the doorbell and ask to have a quick snoop inside? I certainly have! So when I was approached by Anna Daccache to feature this Regent’s Park property on the blog, I jumped at the chance. Anna runs atelierada.com, a home-staging business, where she gets the chance to furnish and style the most incredible homes in the most prestigious postcodes in London (only slightly envious!)

The impressive frontage of the house.

Set right opposite Regent’s Park on a gorgeous London street with black iron railings and traditional lamp posts, this five bedroom house measures in at more than 3700 sq ft.  – three reception rooms, a master bedroom with a dressing room and en-suite bathroom, three more bathrooms and ‘vaults’ (naturally!), which are currently being used as wine cellars, as well as access to exclusive resident-only private gardens.

The property is set on a grand street, with Regent's park just a few steps away.

Anna has chosen classic furniture and accessories for the dining room.

The rugs and artwork add a modern twist to the space.

Once a contract is signed, Anna has to have the property staged in 3 to 5 days, so she had quite the job on her hands to make this huge property look homely and attractive in such a short time. Considering the potential tenant, location and era of the property, she decided to go with classic pieces of furniture and sophisticated accessories, but styled with modern art and rugs.

Carefully placed and chosen furniture give potential tenants or buyers a much better idea of how a room can be used.

Viewing a large property can be quite daunting, the many rooms can be overwhelming and this is where staging comes in, it gives life to an empty house and inspires the future occupants with ideas on how to best use and furnish the various rooms.

A pop art welcome in the hallway.

The artwork provides a bold neon statement in the study.

Anna also has her own warehouse of high-end furniture and accessories, from modern to classic, that she picks and chooses pieces from for each of her projects. But she also has a network of suppliers and artists she collaborates with – I love how she also takes the opportunity work closely with artists and makers to showcase their work in her projects, including the artist who created the modern pop art in this property.

A dramatic marble has been used in the shower and on the countertops.

The master bedroom, walk-through dressing room and sweeping staircase.

Another project of Anna’s is this stunning detached house in St. John’s Wood, north London. Anna says “The external facade has Gothic features, like pointed arches etc., and is not that polished. This is also the case inside, so I responded to that with the staging.”

With thanks to Anna for allowing me access to finally have a peek inside some of London's grand homes!
